Mets Are Odds-On Favorites To Land Top-Choice Free Agent Star Pitcher
The New York Mets need to make a major splash this offseason and they have been given strong odds to land arguably the best free-agent pitcher available.
New York had a disappointing 2023 season and it led the club to be arguably baseball's biggest seller ahead of the trade deadline. The Mets traded away star duo Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer and now need to rebuild the starting rotation. New York has been linked to multiple starters but it sounds like the club's top choice is Orix Buffaloes phenom Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
Yamamoto is just 25 years old and is a star in the making. He was electric with the Buffaloes and is projected to be one of the best pitchers in baseball, as well. Plus, Mets starter Kodai Senga has been making it known lately that he wants Yamamoto as a teammate and has been recruiting him.
Everything has worked out so far for the Mets and the club is the odds-on favorite to land Yamamoto in free agency by DraftKings with +220 odds. While this doesn't necessarily mean that the Mets actually will land the young star, it is a positive sign.
Yamamoto makes perfect sense for the Mets and would fill arguably the club's biggest roster hole. New York has plenty of talent on the roster but the club's rotation has been decimated. Pairing Yamamoto with Senga would be the perfect start to getting the club back on track.
New York will have stiff competition, but does have the most money and can make the highest offer. Don't be surprised to see Yamamoto land with the Mets shortly.
