For a while it felt like every starting pitcher that the New York Mets had or brought into their rotation was missing time due to injury. Hopefully all those demons were exercised and their new ace Kodai Senga continues to stay healthy.

But the curse seems to have been passed onto another team as the Texas Rangers dealt with Jaco deGrom's injury history last year that caused him to get season-ending Tommy John surgery.

Now, another former Mets pitcher has picked up an injury that will cause him to miss some time.

"Rangers news: Max Scherzer underwent surgery on his back for a herniated disk yesterday, according to general manager Chris Young," reports Kennedi Landry of MLB.com.

New York signed their former ace to a three-year, $130 million contract ahead of the 2022 season. He spent a little over two seasons with the Mets before they shipped him to the Rangers at the trade deadline last season.

Max Scherzer accumulated a 20-9 record across 42 starts and a 3.02 ERA over 253 innings pitched with New York.

He went on to win the World Series with Texas last year, which was bittersweet for the Mets, although they did get back some elite prospects in return for trading the veteran righty.

Landry also notes that Scherzer and the team attempted several treatments before ultimately deciding to get the surgery. This likely keeps him out until June or July of 2024.

The 39-year-old opted into his $43.33 million player option this offseason to keep himself with the Rangers.

He's expected to be a major part of the rotation again as Texas goes for a repeat after winning their first ever World Series title.
