Mets 'Fully Intend' To Attempt To Sign Superstar Slugger Next Offseason

Could New York actually land one of the best players in baseball next offseason?

It sounds like the New York Mets are going to try to sign one of the top players in baseball next offseason.

The New York Yankees arguably made the biggest trade of the offseason by acquiring young superstar Juan Soto in a deal with the San Diego Padres.

New York certainly would love to retain Soto for the long term, but that may not end up being the case. Soto will be a free agent at the end of the 2024 season and it sounds like New York will have some competition for his services.

The New York Mets could use some help in the outfield and have been mentioned as a possible fit. New York has more money than anyone else and it sounds like they will be willing to spend it on Soto.

Speculation continues to swirl and the Mets "fully intend" to pursue Soto, according to ESPN's Buster Olney.

"The most interesting thing heard at Mets' camp yesterday -- and it's not surprising, given that the (Max Scherzer) contract (and others) will melt off their payroll next winter -- is that they fully intend to take a run at Juan Soto next winter," Olney said.

If the Mets could add some pitching help, sign Soto, and retain first baseman Pete Alonso, the club immediately could be contenders. New York had a quiet offseason but is in a better place.

New York doesn't seem like a World Series contender right now, but landing Soto could completely change that next offseason.
