Mets Predicted As Top Landing Spot For Yankees' Superstar Juan Soto

Could the Mets actually snatch the Yankees' star in free agency?

The New York Mets could end up surprising some people.

New York didn't make a massive investment this offseason but that doesn't mean the club won't next year. The Mets still have more money than any other club and one of the best players in baseball will be available.

New York Yankees superstar slugger Juan Soto is one of the top players in baseball and while the club certainly wants to retain him, he will be entering free agency. The 2024 campaign hasn't even kicked off yet so it's clearly too early to look at next year, but Bleacher Report's Zachary Rymer attempted to predict where Soto will land and has the Mets as the top landing spot.

"If the Mets indeed decide they want to sign Soto next winter, it'll be hard for anyone to outlast them in a bidding war," Rymer said. "Even for a year that looks like a bridge after they went all-in on 2023 with a $350 million payroll, the Mets are still projected to run a $315 million payroll.

"And with so many one-year deals on their books, their commitments will basically be cut in half when the season's done. The Mets therefore shouldn't have to choose between adding Soto and retaining Pete Alonso. If they want them both, they should be able to afford them both."

Landing Soto would be a massive addition for the Mets. New York could use some help in the outfield and Soto immediately would make the club's lineup significantly better.

Don't be surprised if speculation builds up about a possible partnership between the Mets and Soto throughout the season.
