Mets Predicted Opening Day Starter Excited For Healthy Season

The New York Mets expected Opening Day starter is excited for a healthy season.

The New York Mets lost Jose Quintana for most of last year with a rib injury that required surgery. He started just 13 games, the fewest of his career in a full season.

Looking ahead to 2024, the left-hander has a real opportunity to be the Opening Day starter with Kodai Senga out with a shoulder injury. An official decision hasn't been announced, but Quintana should get the nod.

Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reported how the veteran felt in his first Spring Training start, excited to be on the mound again after dealing with the injury last year.

"It's just really good to feel healthy,” Quintana said.

The struggles were there for him in his first start of Spring Training. He allowed three walks, two hits, and two earned runs in 1 2/3 innings pitched.

Struggling after an injury in Spring Training isn't concerning as Quintana's focus is to get comfortable on the mound again and find the feel for his stuff.

The Mets aren't expected to be a contending team this season. Many view them as a third-place team in the National League East.

Steve Cohen indicated at the trade deadline last year that he planned to contend in 2025. Everything he did this offseason confirmed that was the case.

However, Quintana and others can benefit from this season in New York.

As Cohen gets ready to spend big on free agents next offseason, pitching will be a must.

If he can prove that he still has it in him to pitch at a high level, keeping him around will be something the Mets likely look to do moving forward.
