Mets Reportedly Showing 'Heavy Interest' In All-Star Slugger After Career Year

New York needs to add some help in the middle of the lineup

The New York Mets could use some help in the middle of the lineup.

New York needs to address the designated hitter position this offseason after letting slugger Daniel Vogelbach go. The Mets have been linked to a handful of sluggers and need one badly to help out in the middle of the lineup and it would help if they were right-handed.

One player the club reportedly is showing "heavy interest" in is former Miami Marlins slugger Jorge Soler, according to Major League Baseball insider Héctor Gómez.

"Source: Jorge Soler is seeking a multi-year contract of at least 3 guaranteed years," Gómez said. "The (Boston Red Sox) continues being the frontrunner. The Mets are showing heavy interest in him, joining Red, (Toronto Blue Jays), (Arizona Diamondbacks), and (Seattle Mariners) in the Soler sweepstakes."

While this doesn't necessarily mean a deal is coming, it isn't the first time New York has been linked to Soler. The 31-year-old was a star last season for the Marlins and clubbed 36 home runs and drove in 75 runs en route to his first All-Star nod.

He could be the exact type of player New York needs. He won't be as expensive as other top offensive players available -- former Most Valuable Player Cody Bellinger -- but could help out in the middle of the lineup and provide some help defensively in the outfield whenever the Mets need it.

New York needs to add a bat to the middle of the lineup and Soler could be the best fit,
