Mets 'Stand Out' In Pursuit Of Ex-Yankees Slugger In Free Agency

Should the Mets sign the former Yankees slugger?

The New York Mets seem like they may end up adding some more offensive talent this offseason.

New York has been linked to multiple players and recently has had discussions with All-Star slugger J.D. Martinez about possibly joining the club.

There are other options out there as well that New York has been linked to. The Mets have recently been mentioned as a possible landing spot for former Cleveland Guardians, Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees, Minnesota Twins, and Los Angeles Angels slugger Gio Urshela.

It's unclear if a move will happen, but New York was floated as an option once again Wednesday by MLB Network's Jon Morosi.

"I was told this week that three teams in particular stand out as in having interest in Urshela," Morosi said. "The Mets, the Yankees, and the (Miami Marlins)...It does feel like the Mets do have the ability to add a significant offensive piece and (Gio Urshela) at his best was on his way to having a really good year batting close to .300. I've always loved what he brings to a team and there are similarities to what he does and what Wilmer Flores will do for a ball club. I see a lot of value for him."

Urshela would be a very interesting pickup for the Mets. He would cost much less than someone like Martinez but still provide solid offensive play. Plus, he could help out all over the diamond as opposed to just spending time as the club's designated hitter.

It sounds like the Mets will have competition for Urshela but a signing could be a solid idea.
