Mets Still Viewed as Potential Landing Spot for Three-Time Silver Slugger

The New York Mets are still viewed as a potential landing spot for a six-time All-Star.

The New York Mets offseason has been much different compared to years past. After doing everything they could last winter to try and win the World Series, the Mets have taken a different approach.

Despite their strategy this time around, New York has made impressive additions.

Sean Manaea, Luis Severino, Joey Wendle, Harrison Bader, and other signings could prove to be smart ones down the road.

At the very least, this year can be used to see who they should bring back next offseason when they go all in again.

There could be another move coming shortly as the Mets have been linked to veteran J.D. Martinez, who at 36 years old, can still swing it with the best of them.

Mark Feinsand of MLB.com confirmed the reports on New York showing interest in the six-time All-Star.

"The Giants have been connected to Soler in recent days, while the Mets have been reported as a potential landing spot for Martinez. It's hard to think that their markets don't overlap, though, as they are the two premier power bats still available in free agency."

Martinez spent the bulk of his career with the Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox. He last played for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2023, slashing .271/.321/.572 with 33 home runs in 113 games. It was yet another season that he proved that he's still one of the game's best hitters.

For an offense that's going to be looking for production, Martinez is the perfect fit for them.

With the remaining free agents, there aren't many better on the market. Given his price compared to the likes of Cody Bellinger and Matt Chapman, Martinez might be the best remaining option, especially for New York.

With Spring Training starting, expect a decision to come soon from the slugger.
