Nationals Seen As Top Landing Spot For Ex-Mets Outfielder After Strong Season

One former member of the Mets is looking for a new home

The Washington Nationals have been active this offseason.

Washington has been looking for ways to add to the roster this offseason and it sounds like they aren't done adding. The free agent market has been extremely slow this offseason so there still are plenty of serviceable options out there.

One player who still is looking for a new home is former New York Mets outfielder Tommy Pham. The veteran outfielder joined the Mets in free agency last offseason and was steady before being dealt to the Arizona Diamondbacks ahead of the trade deadline.

It's unclear where Pham will land this offseason, but multiple clubs have popped up as possible options. Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter compiled a list of the top remaining free agents with predictions for their landing spots and mentioned the Washington Nationals as an option for Pham.

"Pham signed a one-year, $6 million deal with the New York Mets last offseason and proved to be a terrific value before he was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks where he helped them reach the World Series," Reuter said. "His veteran presence and potential value as a trade chip make him a logical target for the Washington Nationals on another one-year deal. Predicted Landing Spot: Washington Nationals."

The 35-year-old has been a journeyman throughout his 10-year big league career. He began his Major League Baseball career with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2014 and has spent time with the Tampa Bay Rays, San Diego Padres, Cincinnati Reds, Boston Red Sox, Mets, and Diamondbacks since.

He would be a solid pickup for the Nationals as he clubbed 16 home runs, drove in 68 runs, and slashed .256/.328/.446 last season in 129 games with the Mets and Diamondbacks.
