New York Mets Claim Edwin Uceta off Waivers From Pirates

The Mets have claimed right-handed pitcher Edwin Uceta off waivers from the Pirates.

The Mets' pitching staff has been hit hard by the injury bug early on in the season, so on Thursday they decided to bolster their depth.

The Mets claimed right-handed pitcher Edwin Uceta off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates.

In order to make room for Uceta on the 40-man roster, the Mets moved reliever Sam Coonrod to the 60-day IL. Uceta has been optioned to Triple-A Syracuse ahead of the Mets' home opener.

In 24 career big-league games for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks, Uceta holds a 6.27 ERA.

As for Coonrod, he is dealing with a high-grade lat strain and was initially placed on the IL on March 27.
