The New York Mets have been making moves this offseason. After hiring David Stearns to be the president of baseball operations, they're looking to rebuild a front office that will set them up for long-term success.

On Saturday, the Mets just made a move that should have fans ecstatic. New York has hired former Houston Astros scouting director Kris Gross to be their vice president of amateur scouting.

Joe Doyle broke the news.

"Sources: The New York Mets are hiring Houston Astros Scouting Director Kris Gross to oversee their amateur scouting. It is believed his title will be VP of Amateur Scouting. Gross has spent the last 12 years w/Houston, including the last 5 as their scouting director."

Thanks to Stearns, this move was possible.

The pair worked together during their tenures with the Astros. While New York has drafted well for the most part recently, Stearns has added someone he's familiar with and has a proven track record when drafting players.

In the industry, there's arguably nobody better than Gross.

He joined Houston in 2012 as the team's West Coast Supervisor. Over the next 10 years, he served as the national and domestic scouting supervisor.

Gross has helped with the picks of Jeremy Pena, Patrick Sandoval, Jake Meyers, Hunter Brown, Garrett Stubbs, and many others.

This is a great hire for the Mets.

The accomplished executive will now have the role of finding the next great player for New York and he's proven time and time again he can do just that.
