The start of the offseason for the New York Mets has been an interesting one.

The team has made marginal moves, which, despite bolstering areas of need, are not big ticket items that are likely to excite fans still smarting from a losing season.

There are other free agent and trade options for the Mets after the conclusion of the Winter Meetings and New York is expected to pursue those options.

Of those available, Brent Maguire of MLB.com views Jorge Soler as a good fit for the Mets:

"So why the fit with the Mets? Mainly, they need another legitimate bat to plug somewhere in the middle of their order. It's a top-heavy lineup with plenty of questions once you get past guys like Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor. Even with Soler's fluctuating track record, there's reason to believe that his '23 performance might be legitimate — for good this time. Soler whiffed a career-low 27.6% of the time while his .374 expected wOBA — based on the quality and quantity of contact — was the second-best of his career."

As Maguire notes, Soler could be the bat that the team is looking for. The 31-year-old hit 36 home runs in 2023 and slashed .250/.341/.512 for the Marlins.

Soler made a huge name for himself in the 2019 season after hitting 48 home runs for the Kansas City Royals. He was also a star in the Atlanta Braves World Series run.

This is an interesting name for New York and someone who could come in and make a positive impact on their lineup.
