Mets Slugger Will Donate To Pet Rescues For Every Home Run

Pete Alonso is set to donate money for every home run he hits in 2024 to pet rescue groups.

You don’t have to tell New York Mets slugger Pete Alonso that big decisions are coming. He knows he’s in his final year before he hits free agency.

He’s open to coming back on a long-term deal, as he discussed on Saturday during spring training. He also knows that free agency can be a life-changing opportunity, especially when Scott Boars is your agent.

Barring something catastrophic, big money is coming his way. But he’s using this season to ensure that some big money will be going to charity.

During his session with the media on Saturday at Port St. Lucie, Alonso announced that the Alonso Foundation would donate $1,000 for each home run that he hits to animal rescues.

“We’re trying to tackle the issue of trying to get animals out of kill shelters,” Alonso said. “So we’re going to be helping as many animals as possible, whether that’s paying for transport, beds, toys, supplies, blankets, the whole bit. We’re going to be donating money to certain rescues that will be taking animals, especially dogs, out of kill shelters.

"Hopefully there's a lot of homers and we get to save a lot of animals."

Alonso also said he’s soliciting donations at alonsofoundation.org.

Based on Alonso’s history at the plate, this could be a significant fund-raiser for the animal shelters that benefit.

In a full season Alonso has never hit fewer than 37 home runs, which was in 2021. He set his career high his rookie season, when he blasted 53 home runs and won National League Rooke of the Year honors.

If he sticks with his 162-game average, Alonso could hit 45 home runs in 2024, which would be $45,000 to support pet rescues.
