Red Sox, Diamondbacks Seen As Top Landing Spots For Rumored Mets Target

It sounds like one of the Mets' rumored targets could sign elsewhere

There still are some very intriguing free agents out there.

The New York Mets have been one of the most active teams this offseason and have improved the club despite not handing out any massive contracts. New York is in a better spot but some have speculated another move could make sense.

While it's unclear if the Mets will make another move, many have said the club should add another slugger to the middle of the lineup. New York let Daniel Vogelbach go this offseason and many have said the club should add a new designated hitter.

At this point in the offseason, there still are some intriguing sluggers available who have been linked to the Mets including All-Stars Jorge Soler and J.D. Martinez. Either would make sense, but it's unclear if New York will get a deal done.

If the Mets want to land Soler, they will have plenty of competition. Two teams that are also seen as "potential fits" for the All-Star are the Boston Red Sox and Arizona Diamondbacks, according to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand.

"Soler played more games as a designated hitter than as an outfielder in 2023, but the slugger is capable of filling either role for his next team," Feinsand said. "He belted 36 home runs for the Marlins last season, rebounding from an injury-riddled 2022 campaign. In a market devoid of much meaningful power, Soler might just be the best such threat available. Potential fits: (Arizona Diamondbacks), Red Sox."

Soler is an interesting option and he certainly could help the Mets but it doesn't sound like a move is going to happen.
