Spring Training is near, and with the New York Mets still on the search for talent, a six-time All-Star might be the perfect option.

J.D. Martinez, a 13-year MLB veteran, could bring the Mets' lineup stability as they look to improve upon a disappointing 2023 season.

Martinez played most of his career with the Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox. Throughout his 13 seasons, he's been named an All-Star six times, including five straight selections, won the Silver Slugger award three times, and was the World Series champion in 2018.

In every lineup that he has been part of, they've been better because of him.

Mark Feinsand of MLB.com built a team from the top remaining free agents. He listed the slugger as the team's designated hitter and put New York as a potential fit along with the Los Angeles Angels.

Feinsand brings up Martinez's 2023 season where he hit 33 home runs with 103 RBIs and slashed .271/.321/.572 for the Los Angeles Dodgers. If a team is looking for a guy who can flat-out swing the bat, Martinez is their guy.

The fit for him makes sense for the Mets past this season, too. He hasn't shown signs of slowing down, leaving a deal longer than one year on the table. With New York expected to spend in free agency next offseason, having Martinez already comfortable with the city and organization can be a big help.

Martinez ranked in the 91st percentile or higher in xwOBA, xSLG, AVG exit velocity, barrel%, hard-hit%, and sweet-spot%, according to Baseball Savant. All signs point to him continuing to be an elite hitter this season.
