Tommy Pham Reveals What Makes Diamondbacks Better than Mets

Tommy Pham is in the World Series, playing with the Arizona Diamondbacks against the Texas Rangers.

Former New York Mets outfielder Tommy Pham is a little busy right now. He’s playing for the Arizona Diamondbacks in the World Series.

But he talked about the contrast between his current and his former team before Game 3 on Monday night.

Arizona reached the World Series for the second time in team history, in part with Pham as their designated hitter. Pham was dealt to the Diamondbacks at the trade deadline, and he’s been part of the fuel for their incredible run through the playoffs as a No. 6 seed.

In fact, Pham went 4-for-4 in Game 2 of the World Series and, if not for a bit of generosity on his part in allowing Joc Pederson to pinch-hit in his spot, he might have had a chance to go for 5-for-5.

But, back to the Mets, whom Pham joined to start the season. Like Texas Rangers Game 3 starter Max Scherzer, he’s with another team in the World Series and not the Mets, who had hoped their offseason moves would position themselves for the Fall Classic.

There is a difference between the two teams, Pham said. And it’s that difference, he said, that should make the Mets embarrassed they’re not here, per USA Today.

“That team (the Mets) is more talented than this team," Pham said. “Let’s be honest here. But what makes this team different is everyone is still at this level trying to reach their max potential. The drive wasn’t there (with the Mets). That drive is here. That’s what separates this team from most teams. You have guys that are still trying to get better every day. You have teammates trying to help you out. And that’s dangerous.”

Earlier this season Pham said that several Mets were “lazy” in their preparation to the game.

Perhaps that’s reflect in what Pham is doing this week and what the Mets are not?
