White Sox Sign Ex-Mets Fireballer Looking To Bounce-Back To Minor League Deal

Chicago signed a former member of the Mets on Tuesday

The Chicago White Sox signed multiple relievers Tuesday, including a former member of the New York Mets.

Former Mets reliever Dominic Leone has been looking for a new home in free agency and officially landed with the White Sox on a minor league deal with an invite to spring training, according to the club.

"The White Sox have agreed to minor-league deals with (right-handed pitchers) Corey Knebel and Dominic Leone," the team said. "Both will be in camp as (non-roster invites). The Sox now have 68 players in camp, including 28 NRI."

Leone has been a journeyman throughout his big league career so far. He was selected in the 16th round of the 2012 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft by the Seattle Mariners and eventually made his big league debut with the club in 2014.

Since 2014, he's spent time with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Toronto Blue Jays, St. Louis Cardinals, Cleveland Guardians, San Francisco Giants, Mets, Los Angeles Angels, and a second stint with the Mariners.

Leone is a 10-year big league veteran with a 3.82 career ERA in 404 total appearances. He made 31 appearances with the Mets last season and had a 4.40 ERA and 33-to-11 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

The best season of his career certainly was in 2021 as a member of the Giants. He had an eye-popping 1.51 ERA in 57 appearances to go along with a 50-to-22 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 53 2/3 innings pitched.

If he could return to that level of play, he could be a solid pickup for the White Sox.
