Yankees Superstar Mentioned As Possible Fit For Mets Next Offseason In Free Agency

New York will have plenty of money to spend next offseason

The New York Mets haven't made any major splashes this offseason but that doesn't mean the club will do the same next year.

New York's payroll will become much more manageable and there will be some very intriguing free agents available. It's certainly too early to project what will happen because the 2024 season hasn't even kicked off yet, but the top free agent expected to be available next year is New York Yankees superstar Juan Soto.

The young slugger is one of the top players in baseball and has made it known that he will be hitting free agency. The Mets have more money to spend than anyone else and Soto was mentioned as a possible option for the club by SNY's Andy Martino.

"Juan Soto arrived at George M. Steinbrenner Field on Sunday, reporting for duty as the shiny new star for a New York team," Martino said. "Will we be uttering the same sentence 12 months from now, but with a Port St. Lucie dateline, and subbing in Clover Park for GMS?

"Look, it’s too early to report anything concrete on this or get any answers. But the view from here is there really isn’t any reason why the Mets wouldn’t make a massive push for Soto in free agency after this season. The Mets aren’t talking about it, at least to people like me, but the industry certainly expects it."

Soto is a star and landing him would go a long way in bringing the Mets back to contender status. New York should be in a better spot in 2024 and if the club could land Soto could even be a contender again in 2025.
