Padres News: Fernando Tatis Jr "Felt Great' in First Game in 'Like 500 Days'

Friars star was nothing but smiles following game against the Giants.

Padres fans have been in for a treat these past few days seeing Manny Machado sign his long-awaited extension with the team and finally getting to watch Fernando Tatis Jr. play in a live-action game again. The 24-year-old appeared as designated hitter for a total of three plate appearances against the San Francisco Giants in a Spring Training match on Tuesday.

It had been over a year and a half since El Nino last suited up for San Diego and he has been on a long rehabilitation process in that time. Outside of the physical hurdles he had to overcome, Tatis revealed some mental battles as well. However, the former All-Star definitely looked like he’s returning to old form with a classic stolen base in the first inning.

Following a 7-5 victory over the Giants, Tatis spoke to the media and shared how it felt for him to make his return to the field. Provided by “97.3 The Fan”, he expressed nothing but excitement joining his teammates once again.

“It felt great, it’s good to be back out there,” said Tatis. “I saw something like 500 days (since last playing)? First time on a lineup card for my manager. We were talking about it, it’s been a long time for the both of us. I’ve been waiting for that moment, it feels great just to be out there.”

Tatis solidified himself as one of the best players in the league back in 2021. Baseball is in a better place when he is active and the Padres are very excited to see how he meshes with their top-tier talent.
