Petco Park has been the spot in San Diego this year despite the clubhouse nowhere near at their full strength yet. Their stadium has always been known for giving fans some of the best experiences in all of sports, due to the environment, food options, and interactions.

And the team executives were banking on their investments in star players returning with all the tickets they were poised to sell in 2023. It makes sense as this is a city with some of the most beautiful weather in the world and had one of their biggest years in sports.

With summer time right around the corner, kids out of school, and plenty of tourists frolicking down for a vacation, the sellouts would only be growing right? Maybe not.

The San Diego-Union Tribune's Kevin Acee along with Padres' radio host Sammy Levitt have been on top of the sellout statistics for the Friars this season and Acee made an interesting observation about their most recent one.

"The crowds at Petco Park have been so big and so engaged and so enthusiastically pro-Padres most of the season that it stands out when there is one with the makeup of last night’s gathering. Petco was sold out for the 18th time in 2023, but a good portion (perhaps almost half) of the announced crowd of 43,593 was there to cheer for the Cubs. They cheered loudly enough that it made the boos the Padres heard late in the game less dramatic."

This should serve as a huge wake up call for the Padres moving forward. They must perform better at home and give the fans that support them the show they came to see.
