The San Diego Padres are reportedly placing LHP Rich Hill on waivers to try to shed some salary as the season winds down. Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported the news. If Hill passes through waivers, he'll remain with the club for the rest of the year.

Hill was acquired by the Padres at the trade deadline alongside Ji-Man Choi, and unfortunately just never panned out. In seven games, Hill went 0-4 with a 9.27 ERA and fell out of the rotation altogether.

The Padres were hoping he would make an impact as the team fought for a postseason spot, but instead he only further led to the team's demise.

Choi, who was acquired with Hill from Pittsburgh, went 0-for-11 with San Diego before getting injured. He went on a minor league rehab assignment, where he then fractured his ankle, ending his season.

The Padres' deadline deal with the Pirates turned into an absolute disaster of a move, and Hill being placed on the waivers is the final nail in the coffin.

We'll see if a team takes a chance on him helping the postseason push, or if he's stuck hanging in San Diego for the remainder of the 2023 season.
