The month of May was particularly kind to your San Diego Padres. Overall, there wasn't a lot of winning, and because of that, they remain in a tough spot for the top spot in the NL West and the wild card spot.

Even though the Friars weren't hot this month, one of their superstar players was in beast mode. The MLB recognized his fine play as they placed their star lefty slugger Juan Soto part of the MLB Team of the Month in right field.

Soto was as good as he could be in May, as he had a .333 batting average with five home runs, 15 RBIs, and 13 runs in 26 games. The last week of the month didn't end well for the slugger, but he was good enough to earn those honors.

Overall, the 24-year-old is slashing .256/.422/.487 with a .909 OPS and 50 hits in 58 games through the 2023 season. Soto was off to a slow start to the season where it looked like he couldn't buy a hit to save his life, but hopefully, a great month helps him get back on track. The Friars are going to need it if they want to get back to the thick of things in the NL West.

Time is still on their side, but they shouldn't rely on that as they have more problems to worry about than hitting the baseball.
