Padres NL West Rival Now Seen As 'Favorites' To Land Blake Snell

Could the lefty ace stay in California?

The clock is ticking, as Opening Day is less than two weeks away, at least for the rest of the major league teams.

There is still some elite talent on the free agent market, including Padres free agent ace Blake Snell. That's right, the 2023 NL Cy Young winner has yet to sign with a team, and there's a chance he won't have one by the end of the month.

That would be the surprise of free agency. While there's some truth to that, Snell could sign with a team any minute now. Snell has been linked to many teams, but San Diego's division rival, the San Francisco Giants, has emerged as the favorite to sign the lefty ace.

USA Today's Bob Nightengale reported on it.

The San Francisco Giants are now looming as the favorites for Snell, who have been engaged, but were also waiting for the price-tag to drop.

The Giants aren't the only team hoping Snell's price will drop. The Astros are looking to sign Snell on a short-term deal with a high AAV.

You would have thought Snell would be among the first pitchers to sign a deal with a team. Instead, he's among the last, along with other top pitchers in the free agent market like Jordan Montgomery and Michael Lorenzen.

Snell should find a new team in the coming week, possibly in the Bay Area. The Giants need another arm in their rotation, especially with the exceedingly amount of injuries they've already suffered.

The 31-year-old would be the Opening Day starter if he's ready. The Giants need him, and Snell just hopes any team can sign him soon.
