Padres Trade Left-Handed Pitching Prospect to AL Central Squad

He has not made his major league debut yet.

The San Diego Padres sent 19-year-old pitching prospect Blake Dickerson to the Detroit Tigers in exchange for $500,000 of International bonus pool money.

Dickerson was a 12th-round pick in the 2023 draft out of Ocean Lakes High School in Virginia.

Baseball America recently ranked the southpaw as the No. 22 prospect in the Padres farm system with a high-velocity fastball and an above-average curveball. With his 6-foot-6 frame, BA also projects him to be a No. 4 starter or future bullpen arm, depending on the development of his changeup.

He earned a gold medal in the U-18 Baseball World Cup as a member of Team USA in September 2022 and was committed to Virginia Tech before signing with the Padres for $500,000.

He did not appear in any games for San Diego last season.
