Gold Glove CF Deemed ‘Solution’ to Phillies Outfield Struggles

A Gold Glove outfielder is viewed as a possible solution for the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Philadelphia Phillies look to be turning things around, winning three out of their last four games.

Despite winning games, there's still a major concern in center field with Johan Rojas struggling the way he has offensively. Rojas, 23 years old, is off to a brutal start, slashing .161/.235/.194.

Coming into the season, he was expected to struggle on that side of the ball. However, his first 35 plate appearances have gone as poorly as possible.

In fact, it's not a crazy idea to think that Philadelphia will send him to Triple-A at some point. For a team that has World Series aspirations, they can't afford to have a free out in the lineup, which Rojas has essentially been this season.

Searching for a solution, Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report listed solutions to the Phillies issue, writing that Michael A. Taylor could be a possible fit.

Taylor, 33 years old, is currently playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He won a World Series in 2019 with the Washington Nationals and was a Gold Glove winner in 2021.

Offensively, he's average, but much better than Rojas, His 21 home runs in the 2023 season were the most in his career and a promising sign for a team that could be looking to trade for him around the deadline.

The Pirates have played well to start the season, but they weren't expected to be a good team this year. If that ends up being the case, moving a veteran like Taylor makes sense.

While his offensive struggles have been prevalent at times, he should be able to give Philadelphia more on that end than Rojas.
