First-Round Pick Viewed as Potential Suitor for Philadelphia Phillies

A former first-round pick has been deemed a solution to help the Philadelphia Phillies struggles in the outfield.

It was another disappointing loss for the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday, losing 9-2 to the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Phillies had an opportunity to win the series but failed to do so, splitting two games a piece.

While giving up nine runs is never a recipe for success, the offense underperformed again. Philadelphia has one of the best pitching staffs in baseball, but for them to be the team they're looking to be and were expected to be, the offense has to turn it around.

It's tough to continue pointing fingers at one player when most of the lineup is struggling, but Johan Rojas, despite getting hits in each of his last three games, hasn't shown much to be impressed with offensively.

While he's getting hits, the 23-year-old doesn't seem ready to be playing for a team with World Series aspirations.

Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report wrote about three potential solutions to the Phillies center field problems. Of the three names, Rymer believes Dylan Carlson of the St. Louis Cardinals could be a potential fit.

Carlson, who's dealing with a shoulder injury, is set to ramp up activities on Monday. The former first-round pick had a promising rookie season, finishing third in Rookie of the Year voting.

The switch hitter struggled some since, slashing .236/.316/.380 in 2022. In the 2023 season, Carlson saw action in just 76 games and finished with an OPS+ of 79.

A change of scenery could be what he needs, especially because he showed the type of player he was his rookie season. The Elk Grove native has been viewed as a potential star since high school and playing for Philadelphia could help him unlock that potential.
