Former Philadelphia Phillies Favorite Believes He Won’t Receive Warm Homecoming

The former Philadelphia Phillies first baseman shared how he expects to be welcomed back after signing with the Milwaukee Brewers.

While doing an interview with the show Foul Territory, former Philadelphia Phillies fan favorite and current Milwaukee Brewers slugger, Rhys Hoskins, got the chance to share how he anticipates to be welcomed back into the city later this year.

The host, Eric Kratz, asked if Hoskins expected to be booed because of the reputation that Phillies fans have in greeting former players.

"My guess is yes," he said with a laugh.

Kratz, an MLB veteran, played for Philadelphia in two stints during the 2010s and was likely asking the question out of personal experience.

Hoskins doesn't seem to take the idea of getting booed personally and expects the boos to be because of the Brewers finding success.

"I'm hoping, I don't know if hope is the right word, but if I'm getting booed, it probably means that the Brewers are doing something to be winning the game or to win the game."

Hoskins, 31, was drafted by the Phillies in the fifth round of the 2014 MLB draft and made his debut in 2017. During spring training, before the 2023 season, he suffered an ACL injury that kept him out for the entire year. He signed a two-year deal with the Brewers early in 2024.

"I'm excited to go back. I'm excited to see all those guys, those relationships that I've talked about. I'm excited to compete against them wearing a different uni."

If anyone in the league knows what to expect out of Philadelphia fans, it's Hoskins after spending seven years in front of them.

"I hope the Brewers win at the end of the day," said the slugger, getting one more jab in.

Milwaukee will travel to play the Phillies for a three-game series in the first week of June. There, Hoskins will see if his prediction is correct in how fans will welcome him back.
