Mike Trout Drowns Philadelphia Phillies' Hopes Once Again After Trade Comments
When Shohei Ohtani left the Los Angeles Angels this offseason, many fans of the Philadelphia Phillies viewed this as their opportunity to finally get Mike Trout to come play for his hometown team at some point before his career is over.
Without the current best player in baseball alongside him, many speculated the superstar would finally reach his limit with the franchise and request a trade.
The Phillies seemed like an obvious choice if that were the case.
Nick Castellanos' inconsistencies have continued to be a storyline during his two-year tenure. Despite being an All-Star last season and having an incredible ALDS performance against the Atlanta Braves, he completely disappeared when it mattered most in the ALCS.
Trout would likely slide into right field and take over for Castellanos if this dream trade were to ever happen.
However, based on Trout's latest comments, it doesn't sound like he's looking for an exit anytime soon.
"There might be a time maybe. I really haven't thought about this. But when I signed that contract, I'm loyal. I want to win the championship here," he said according to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com.
The contract he's referring to is the 12-year, $426 million contract he signed in March 2019.
Without Ohtani, the prospect of winning a World Series title seems nearly impossible, based on the fact that two of the greatest players the game has ever seen didn't make the playoffs one time in the six years they were together.
Yet, Trout views seeking a trade as taking the "easy way out" and is hoping ownership and the front office can bring in players around him to compete for a title.
Whether that happens or not will be seen, but it doesn't seem like the Millville, NJ native will be playing for Philadelphia in the near future.
