New Orleans Saints Superstar Rocks Phillies Gear on Thursday Night Football

Alvin Kamara is an Atlanta native but he repped the hat of the team that beat the Braves in the postseason.

The Philadelphia Phillies got some free media during Thursday Night Football from one of the top running backs in football.

In the lead-up to TNF’s game between the New Orleans Saints and the Los Angeles Rams, reporter Taylor Rooks did a near four-minute interview with Saints running back Alvin Kamara.

Kamara had a bit of surprise for Phillies fans — he was wearing a red Phillies hat while doing the interview.

During the interview, he was never asked why he was wearing the hat, as Kamara isn’t from Philadelphia. He was born and raised in Atlanta, Ga.

But, all the same, there was the hat, just a couple of weeks after Phillies first baseman Bryce Harper did the intro for Sunday Night Football when the Philadelphia Eagles faced the Dallas Cowboys.

He has no discernable ties to the team. He went to high school at Norcross in Norcross, Ga., and played his college football at Alabama, Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College and Tennessee. The Saints made him a third-round pick in 2017.

But, in the 2018 season, Kamara was a key piece in the Saints’ NFC Divisional Playoff win over the Eagles. He rushed for 71 yards and caught four passes for 35 yards in the 20-14 win. The Saints lost to the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship Game the following week.

Kamara has emerged as the Saints’ franchise player, especially in the post-Drew Brees era. Kamara was the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2017, was named a Second-Team All-Pro twice (2017 and 2020) and is a five-time Pro Bowl selection. He shares the record for most rushing touchdowns in a game with six.

While Kamara has never had a 1,000-yard season, he has gained more than 10,000 yards rushing and receiving in his eight-year NFL career.
