Philadelphia Phillies No. 5 Prospect Viewed as Top Trade Candidate

The Philadelphia Phillies No. 5 prospect has been deemed a top trade candidate ahead of the trade deadline.

If history repeats itself, Dave Dombrowski will do whatever he can to make the Philadelphia Phillies a better team prior to the trade deadline. A veteran-led team, the Phillies have the flexibility to trade prospects if needed.

They're in a championship window and maximizing that window has been in Philadelphia's best interest throughout the past few seasons.

As it stands now, an outfielder will likely be the biggest need. Given their status as a World Series contending team, adding an arm or two is always a safe bet. Whether it be in the bullpen or rotation, it's almost a guarantee the Phillies will add an arm who can help them in the postseason.

David Schoenfield of ESPN released his early trade deadline preview for all 30 teams, giving his opinion on the top trade candidates for each team.

When writing about Philadelphia, Schoenfield believes their biggest trade candidate is Starlyn Caba.

Caba, the No. 5 ranked prospect in the organization, according to MLB.com, is still just 18-years-old. While he's viewed as someone who can help this franchise in the next few years, moving him now if it nets a positive return could be the ideal thing to do.

For all Dombrowski and the rest of the front office knows, this could be one of the last years they're a contender with this core.

Caba, a switch-hitting shortstop, was regarded as one of the best players in the 2023 international signing class. In his first professional season, he slashed .301/.423/.346 in 133 at-bats.

The Phillies are starting to get back on track, winning their second straight game on Tuesday. If everything goes as planned and they're one of the top teams in baseball come July, expect a move or two.
