Phillies Fan Favorite Playing Against Brother for First Time in MLB Career

A pair of brothers will be playing against each other as the Philadelphia Phillies take on the Houston Astros.

The Philadelphia Phillies continue to roll on in Spring Training, getting their players ready for the upcoming season as they embark on their championship journey.

2024 has had a much different feel than things did a year ago when many of their stars were competing in the World Baseball Classic.

A clean bill of health throughout this ramp up period and increased continuity amongst the roster as the staff gets to work with the players ahead of Opening Day, should allow the Phillies to get off to a much better start.

Even with so many expectations placed upon Philadelphia by the media, fans, and the organization themselves, it's smart not to lose sight that this is still a sport and fun can be had.

That's why the Spring Training game between the Phillies and Houston Astros provides a cool moment for one of the most beloved players in the clubhouse.

Backup catcher Garrett Stubbs will be facing his younger brother C.J., giving them the opportunity to play a game on the same baseball field together for the first time in their lives.

Stubbs was initially an eighth round draft pick of the Astros back in 2015 and was named the best catcher in their minor league system in 2017.

He climbed up the ranks until he was considered one of their best prospects according to MLB Pipeline. He eventually made his Major League debut in 2019 and played in 51 games with Houston from 2019-21.

Philadelphia traded for Stubbs after that season, sending minor league center fielder Logan Cerny to acquire the talented catcher.

The 30-year-old was never going to have a huge role with the Phillies since J.T. Realmuto is the everyday player, but he's carved out a nice niche for himself as one of the best teammates and clubhouse DJ.

It's great to see him get this cool moment with his younger brother.
