Phillies Skipper Reveals How He Feels About Struggling Offense

Philadelphia Phillies manager Rob Thomson gave his thoughts about how the struggling offense is going.

For an offense that’s arguably the best in baseball on paper, the Philadelphia Phillies haven’t been able to get much going in their first six games of the season. Outside of their nine-run performance against the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night, the Phillies have been limited to five runs or fewer in every game.

When Philadelphia scores at least five runs, they’re 2-0 on the season. When they don’t, they’re 0-4.

This team is going to win when the bats show up, especially with the struggles the bullpen has faced in the early stages of the year.

As a team, the Phillies are slashing .223/.305/.355, all in the bottom half of Major League Baseball. For a lineup that features Bryce Harper, Trea Turner, Kyle Schwarber, and other stars, that’s expected to turn around in the near future.

Philadelphia's manager Rob Thomson revealed how he felt about the offense moving forward, having the following to say, according to Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer.

"We're a better offensive club than we're showing — and it'll come. I have all the confidence in the world."

Thomson knows better than anyone what this offense can do after seeing this club hit the way they have throughout the past few seasons. Struggles have been clear so far, but the Phillies have an opportunity to get back on track and dominate in April.

While winning the division has proven to not be the biggest deal, Philadelphia wants to compete for the National League East. They’re healthy this season, unlike last year, so there’s no excuse for them to not be in the mix.

The bats have to come around or they’ll likely be chasing others in the division all season.
