This Philadelphia Phillies Infielder Could Become Team's Next Star
The Philadelphia Phillies are no strangers to having some of baseball's best players, with six of members of the team making the most recent Top 100 players in baseball list from ESPN.
As the Top 100 players list celebrated the current stars of the Phillies, ESPN also looked to the future as they named what player they think would be the next one to make the list on each team.
For Philadelphia, they chose an infielder entering his third season.
26-year-old second baseman Bryson Stott was named the most likely Phillies player to crack the list next.
He improved in pretty much every category from his first year to his second. Another jump in production would be very welcome for Philadelphia. He's a very talented fielder and base stealer, but a rise in power would be his key to making that next jump into becoming a star.
Stott was up to 15 home runs last year from 10 in his rookie campaign. If he could become 20 home run guy while keeping his average up, it would be hard to keep him off the list. He's making better contact, but hasn't had the pop yet to go with it.
If it's not the young second baseman that breaks out next, the next logical choice would probably be Brandon Marsh.
The outfielder is a rising star as well and is looking to make his return soon from knee surgery he had at the beginning of the offseason.
He was a key part of the defense last year and looks to have an improving bat, not too dissimilar to what needs to happen for Stott to take the next step.
It's not clear exactly when Marsh will take the field again during Spring Training, but it'll be a welcome sight for the Phillies and their fans.
