Top Philadelphia Phillies Prospects On Display In 'Spring Breakout' Event
The spring for the Philadelphia Phillies' Major League roster is hoping to go much smoother this year than when they were dealt a tough blow to their lineup following an ACL injury to Rhys Hoskins.
Bryce Harper was also not able to participate as he was dealing with his own injury recovery and Trea Turner, J.T. Realmuto and Kyle Schwarber were playing in the World Baseball Classic.
The Phillies are hoping that a healthy roster and their players being in camp gets them off to a much better start than last season.
But, a new event will also feature many of Philadelphia's potential stars during March during a four-day showcase called "Spring Breakout."
Every team in Major League Baseball will put together a team full of their top 20-25 prospects who will play exhibition games against other teams across the league.
These rosters have not been announced yet, but the Phillies' team could feature many of their promising players.
Todd Zolecki of MLB.com put together a possible lineup.
The most notable of these players would be Justin Crawford, Aidan Miller, Carlos De La Cruz and Gabriel Rincones Jr.
Crawford is Philadelphia's No. 3 overall prospect and is ranked as the 77th overall player in the minors according to MLB Pipeline. The 19-year-old spend the majority of his time at Single-A before finishing the year at High Single-A. He put together a slash line of .332/.392/.467 with three home runs, 116 hits, 64 RBI and 47 stolen bases during his first full year of professional baseball.
Miller is another potential star who is ranked as their No. 4 overall prospect and 90th in the minors. He only played 10 games at Single-A last year after 10 at the rookie ball level.
De La Cruz and Rincones are their No. 6 and No. 9 prospects respectively. Rincones was a breakout player in the Arizona Fall League this year with a slash line of .293/.426/.463 with two homers, 14 RBI and 15 stolen bases across 22 games. De La Cruz has continued to climb the minor league ranks and could make his MLB debut at some point in 2024.
The Phillies will play their first game of this event against the Detroit Tigers on March 16 in Florida.
