Aaron Judge Injury Status for Texas Rangers, Yankees Second Game

American League MVP Aaron Judge exited the New York Yankees' win Thursday over Texas Rangers early with a hip injury.

ARLINGTON, Texas – Aaron Judge is out of the lineup Friday night for the New York Yankees against the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that Judge had undergone some tests but had no further update. Judge will see a doctor later on Friday.

The reigning American League MVP left Thursday’s series opener in the fourth inning with right hip discomfort. The team captain was replaced in right field by Oswaldo Cabrera.

The Yankees won 4-2.

Cabrera will start in left field for the Yankees, with Aaron Hicks in center field and Franchy Cordero in right field.

Jake Powers was also called up to provide New York with some cover.

Judge may not return during the Rangers series, which goes through Sunday. He is hitting .261 with six home runs and 14 RBI through 26 games.

Judge normally likes hitting at Globe Life Field – his AL single-season record 62nd home run was hit here last season – but he went 0-for-2 with two strikeouts Thursday against Andrew Heaney before leaving the game.

The Yankees did hit three long balls – solo shots from DJ LeMahieu, Gleyber Torres and former Rangers catcher Jose Trevino.

The loss was a season-high fourth in a row for Texas, which dropped to 14-11 and into a tie with the Houston Astros atop the AL West.

The Rangers hope to end the skid with ace Jacob deGrom (2-0, 3.04) for the second game. The Yankees (15-11) counter with Clarke Schmidt (0-2, 6.30) and first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
