Texas Rangers Top Prospect Getting Promoted Quickly Though Minor Leagues

First-round pick Wyatt Langford's impending promotion is a major move in the Texas Rangers' minor league system.

ARLINGTON, Texas —The Texas Rangers have had an eventual week when it comes to their organization’s development in the minor leagues.

The latest is the reported promotion of outfielder Wyatt Langford from High-A Hickory to Double-A Frisco. The Rangers don’t normally announce prospect promotions.

Langford was just named the South Atlantic League Player of the Week after he batted .412 with two doubles, two home runs and four RBI.

The first-round pick has slashed .340/.450/.670/1.120 with six home runs and 19 RBI in 27 minor-league games. This will be the third different Rangers affiliate he’s played with this season.

Next is Sebastian Walcott, the gem of the Rangers’ 2023 international signing class. He was promoted from the Arizona Complex League team to Hickory on Sunday. He made his debut with the Crawdads that day, going 1-for-4 with a double and RBI.

He started the year with the Dominican Summer League team and was then transferred to their Arizona Complex League team, where his numbers exploded. The 17-year-old Bahamas native has slashed .253/.338/.489/.827 with seven home runs and 23 RBI in 45 minor leagues games.

Rangers pitching prospect Jack Leiter seems to have found something after his long stint on the developmental list. The Frisco RoughRiders activated him on Aug. 27 and he’s started two games. In that span, he’s thrown 6 1/3 innings, giving up six hits, two earned runs and striking out 11. Perhaps most importantly to the Rangers, he gave up just one walk.

Location issues and walk rate were what landed Leiter on the developmental list in the first place.

Finally, Evan Carter — the Rangers’ No. 1 prospect — wrapped up his first week at Triple-A Round Rock, where he continued to position himself to compete for a Major League job in 2024. In six games, he slashed .360/.448/.400/.848 with one double, three RBI and five runs scored.
