Yankees, Rangers Both Pursuing Superstar Pitcher In Possible Blockbuster Trade

It sounds like New York has some serious competition for the superstar

The New York Yankees still are waiting to see if 2023 American League Cy Young Award winner Gerrit Cole will miss any time.

Cole had an MRI earlier this week on his pitching elbow but the club hasn't released the results, yet. The Yankees are considered one of the top teams in the American League with a healthy Cole, but if he is going to miss an extended period that would change.

New York already seems to be making contingency plans and almost immediately reportedly discussed a possible trade with the Chicago White Sox for ace Dylan Cease.

While a move is possible, the Yankees reportedly have some competition for him as the Texas Rangers also are showing interest in a deal, according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.

"The Rangers surely are not the only team interested in Cease," Rosenthal said. "The (San Diego Padres) need rotation help. The New York Yankees, awaiting word on Gerrit Cole's right elbow, reportedly checked in."

Speculation has been swirling over the last few days and has shown no signs of slowing down. If the Yankees were to get a deal done, it certainly would deplete the farm system even further. Some big league talent could even be on the way out of town.

New York's starting rotation already has question marks but losing Cole would completely change things. Landing Cease could help out with that issue, but a deal won't be easy.
