Brewers Land Ex-Red Sox Infielder After Rollercoaster Stint With Boston

One former member of the Red Sox has found a new home with the Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers reportedly signed a former member of the Boston Red Sox on Thursday.

Former Red Sox infielder Christian Arroyo was looking for a new home in free agency and seems to have found one. Arroyo reportedly landed a minor league deal with the Brewers, according to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy.

"The Brewers are in agreement with free agent (infielder) Christian Arroyo, according to a source," McCalvy said. "(The 28-year-old) plays all over the field, and spent the last four years with Boston."

Boston claimed Arroyo off waivers from the Cleveland Guardians toward the end of the 2020 campaign. Arroyo remained with Boston until he was designated for assignment by the club in 2023 and eventually elected free agency

Arroyo was solid throughout his time with Boston and logged a .264/.306/.411 slash line in 224 total appearances but dealt with a handful of injuries. He was very solid as a bat-first bench piece but dealt with an ever-changing role in Boston.

He is just 28 years old and can be a steady big league depth option but it's unclear what role he will play with the Brewers. Arroyo will have a chance to make Milwaukee's big league roster but will have to stay healthy and impress in Spring Training.

Arroyo was solid in Boston and it wouldn't be surprising to see him get a chance with the Brewers at some point in 2024. Hopefully, he can shine in Spring Training and nab a big league roster spot.
