Giants Seen As Top Landing Spot For Ex-Red Sox All-Star By Insider

One former Red Sox star is looking for a new home

One former member of the Boston Red Sox could find a new home in the National League West soon.

There still are a handful of intriguing free agents available including former Red Sox All-Star J.D. Martinez. He was impressive with the Los Angeles Dodgers last season, but is a free agent and will be landing elsewhere because the club signed Shohei Ohtani.

Numerous clubs have been linked to Martinez this offseason, but he hasn't landed a new deal yet. It's unclear where he will sign, but USA Today Sports' Bob Nightengale predicted Martinez ultimately will land with the San Francisco Giants.

"The Giants still have plenty of money to burn, and although Martinez doesn’t have the versatility they covet, his bat could solve a whole lot of offensive concerns," Nightengale said.

San Francisco has been looking to make splashes in free agency over the last few years. The Giants continue to look for ways to improve the club and landing someone like Martinez to help out in the middle of the lineup could go a long way.

He was an All-Star last season with the Dodgers and clubbed 33 home runs and drove in 103 runs across 113 total appearances.

San Francisco has been looking for ways to boost its offense and Martinez is one of the top remaining free-agent sluggers. He is 36 years old but still has a lot of pop left in his bat. Plus, he will be significantly less expensive than someone like Cody Bellinger. It wouldn't be too surprising to see a deal get done.
