Newly Acquired Red Sox Infielder Reportedly In Danger Of Missing Opening Day

Boston fans may have to wait to see the club's new infielder in action

The Boston Red Sox got some bad news Saturday.

Opening Day will be here before you know it and the Red Sox are going to look different. The Red Sox's starting rotation isn't in the place many hoped it would be in, but the rest of the roster is in a good spot.

One of the areas of the team that has been a weakness in recent years is at second base but the club seemingly fixed it this offseason. Boston traded Chris Sale to the Atlanta Braves for young infielder Vaughn Grissom.

Boston fans may have to wait a little bit to see him though as he is dealing with a groin strain and could even miss Opening Day, according to the Boston Globe's Pete Abraham.

"Vaughn Grissom has a groin strain," Abraham said. "Opening Day in doubt, per Alex Cora. Cora pointed to (Enmanuel Valdez) as being next in line. With (Pablo Reyes) is also available. Grissom also was dealing with a hamstring issue and had yet to appear in a game. So this is definitely a setback."

Grissom hopefully won't miss too much time but his injury certainly is disappointing. Boston's offseason didn't play out as many hoped it would, but landing Grissom was a major positive.

The 23-year-old seemingly is Boston's second baseman of the future so there will be plenty of time to see him, but we will have to wait a little bit. He has appeared in 64 total games at the big league level and clubbed five home runs, drove in 27 RBIs, and slashed .287/.339/.407 with the Atlanta Braves.
