Red Sox Heavily Recruited Recent Signing; Pedro Martinez Big Fan Of High-Upside Hurler

Boston called in the cavalry to assist with a recent signing

Although he's no longer throwing every fifth day, Pedro Martinez continues to help elevate the Boston Red Sox's pitching staff.

"When Dinelson Lamet was released by the Rockies, the Red Sox made an immediate push to sign him," The Athletic's Chad Jennings tweeted Thursday. "One of the first to reach out was Pedro Martinez. Now signed to a minor league deal, Lamet presents a worth-a-shot possibility for a thin Red Sox rotation."

Dinelson Lamet was recently signed by the organization and assigned to Triple-A Worcester, with heavy implications that he will be a project to work on.

Dinelson had an 11.57 ERA, 31-to-22 strikeout-to-walk ratio, .349 batting average against, and a 2.34 WHIP in 25 2/3 innings pitched across 16 games pitched for the Colorado Rockies this season.

The Red Sox finally found success in landing Lamet, as they have reportedly pursued the righty in the past.

The Red Sox are understanding that Lamet's road to getting back to his former self will be a challenge, as part of their push to get him to sign with Boston involved a breakdown of how the organization plans on handling his recent struggles.

As for Martinez, so far he was only involved with the signing process -- but personally, I would love to see him fall into a mentor role for the 30-year-old.
