Red Sox Reportedly Haven't Re-Engaged With Slugger About Contract Extension

Will the Red Sox be able to get a deal done before Opening Day?

The Boston Red Sox seem to be looking to lock up their rising young stars to new contracts.

Boston has struggled with that in recent years and it helped lead to the departures of homegrown talent like Mookie Betts and Xander Bogaerts. The Red Sox seem to be trying to do things a little differently and there has been plenty of speculation that the club is open to extensions for Brayan Bello and Triston Casas.

Bello is the most likely of the pair to get a deal done. Things have heated up recently and it seems like a deal is going to get done.

Casas also has been in extension rumors throughout Spring Training, but he seems further away from a deal. There was speculation earlier in camp that the two sides were talking but weren't in the same ballpark for a deal yet.

That seems to be the case still and the two sides reportedly haven't re-engaged in contract talks, according to WEEI's Rob Bradford.

"Triston Casas said he has not re-engaged in extension talks with the Red Sox as of yet," Bradford said. “I don’t know if they’re trying to finalize (Brayan Bello), but there have really been no talks, no developments, whatsoever”

It sounds like Bello is going to land a deal very soon and then it wouldn't be surprising to see the club begin discussions with Casas again. It seems like Boston wants to keep both around the club for the foreseeable future.

A deal may not get done before Opening Day, but it wouldn't be surprising to see the two sides speak again, at least.
