Miguel Cabrera added another historic achievement to his Hall of Fame resume Wednesday night when he smacked a three-run homer off Kenta Maeda in the sixth inning.

The blast was Cabrera's first of two home runs in the Tigers' 7-6 loss to the Twins, the 485th and 486th of his career, but it also was his 1,454th run scored, making him the all-time leader for Venezuelan-born MLB players. Bobby Abreu, a former All-Star outfielder and borderline-Hall of Fame candidate in his own right, was the previous Venezuelan runs leader.

The 37-year-old Cabrera also leads all Venezuelan-born players in homers and RBI (1,726).

His second homer, also a three-run shot, came with two outs in the ninth inning off Twins reliever Sergio Romo, and it gave him six RBI on the night. Cabrera now has 41 multi-homer games in his 18-year career, which is the 30th most all-time. It was Cabrera's first six-RBI game since 2013, a career high and the sixth time he's done that in his career.

"Over the years, I've been very fortunate to have the opportunity to play with and to coach and even manage some of the greatest hitters that ever played this game," Tigers interim manager Lloyd McClendon said. "And I think Miggy fits right up there at the top with all of them. This guy's special, and he's not done."

With his first homer Wednesday, Cabrera, who has played with Detroit for the last 13 seasons, became the seventh Tiger in franchise history to record 1,200 RBI with the team.

Cabrera's next chance to make history is on Thursday night against the Kansas City Royals. The first pitch is at 8:05 p.m. EST.
