Ex-Giants Slugger Could Be Surprising Option For Yankees

Should the Yankees look into landing the former Giants slugger?

The New York Yankees are in a much better place than they were at the end of the 2024

New York is expected to be one of the top teams in the American League in 2024 but the club still could use some more depth. The Yankees significantly improved the roster this offseason and added some star talent in Juan Soto and Marcus Stroman.

While this is the case, New York could still use some more offensive depth after a tough 2023 season. One player who surprisingly is available and could make sense for New York is former San Francisco Giants, New York Mets, and Houston Astros utility man J.D. Davis.

The veteran slugger was placed on waivers by the Giants on Saturday and was floated as an option for New York by The Athletic's Chis Kirschner.

"Yankees have two openings on the bench," Kirschner said. "Davis would be better than every candidate currently on the roster vying for one of the spots."

Davis was selected by the Astros in the third round of the 2014 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft and eventually made his big league debut in 2017. He is a seven-year big league veteran and could make a lot of sense for New York.

The veteran appeared in 144 games with the Giants last season and clubbed 18 home runs and drove in 69 runs while slashing .248/.325/.413.

New York struggled offensively last season and although it is in a better place right now, could still use some more depth, especially after the injury to Oswald Peraza.
