Nationals Land Ex-Yankees Slugger To Add Power Boost To Middle Of Lineup

It sounds like the Nationals landed a former member of the Yankees on Tuesday

One former member of the New York Yankees reportedly has landed with the Washington Nationals.

Free agency has been extremely slow this offseason and there still are plenty of players still available. Signings have been few and far between, but one former member of the Yankees received a new deal Tuesday.

Former Yankees slugger Joey Gallo reportedly agreed to a one-year deal worth roughly $5 million, according to the Washington Post's Andrew Golden.

"The Nationals and Joey Gallo have agreed to a one-year deal, according to multiple sources familiar," Golden said. "The deal is pending a physical. Washington was in the market for a left-handed outfielder this offseason and now they have one in Gallo."

Gallo spent the 2023 season with the Minnesota Twins and clubbed 21 home runs and drove in 40 runs while slashing .177/.301/.440 in 111 total games played. He saw time defensively at all three outfield spots as well as at first base.

The two-time All-Star has always been a high-strikeout, high-number-of-home-runs player, but has struggled over the last two seasons. Gallo was an All-Star in 2021 but was traded from the Texas Rangers to New York.

After joining the Yankees, he began to slump. He began the 2022 season with New York but eventually was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

He now will have an opportunity to attempt to return to form with the Nationals where he likely will see plenty of playing time. Hopefully, he will be able to get back on track in 2024.
