The season as a whole has been extremely disappointing for the New York Yankees. Their general manager even went so far as to call it a disaster.

They have been ravaged by injuries, putting players on the injured list throughout the entire year. It's one of the reasons why they're currently tied for last in the AL East.

However, the one thing consistent on the team all season long has been the dominance of their ace Gerrit Cole.

Voters of the Cy Young award have continued to notice the great play of the Yankees pitcher throughout the year and have him as the frontrunner to win the award.

MLB.com conducted a poll asking 39 voters to cast their ballots for their top five candidates.

"Voters were asked to rank their top five in each league. Pitchers received points on a 5-4-3-2-1 scale -- five points for a first-place vote, four points for a second-place vote and so on," according to the website.

Cole received 38 of 39 first-place votes by those who were polled.

It's the third straight poll where he has held the top position, this time almost being a unanimous selection to win the AL Cy Young.

The righty is tied for the second most wins in the American League with 13, has an ERA of 2.79 which is lowest in the AL and third-lowest in the league. He also has the fifth most strikeouts in MLB with 204 and the league's lowest WHIP of 1.03.

Cole has been one of the lone bright spots for New York this season as they are getting closer to missing the playoffs for the first time in seven years.

This would be the ace's first Cy Young award after being in the Top 5 of voting on five occasions, including two runner-up finishes.
