The New York Yankees have added another outfielder.

On Thursday, the Yankees claimed outfielder Bubba Thompson off waivers from the Cincinnati Reds.

The Reds designated Thompson for assignment last week. As a result, the Yankees claimed the outfielder off waivers.

Thompson spent the past two seasons with the Texas Rangers, where he appeared in 92 games, slashed .242/.286/.305 with a .591 OPS, one home run and 13 RBIs.

The Yankees entered the day with two open spots on their 40-man roster, which they have now filled with right-handed pitcher Cody Poteet and Thompson.

Thompson, 25, was a former first-round draft pick, No. 26 overall, by the Rangers back in 2017, but did not make his major league debut until 2022. He was being recruited to play college football in the SEC, but signed with the Rangers out of high school instead.

With the addition of Thompson, the Yankees have continued to bolster their outfield depth after acquiring Juan Soto, Trent Grisham and Alex Verdugo this offseason.
