White Sox GM Hints Yankees Aren't Close to Landing Cease

It seems like the New York Yankees have some work to do if they want to land Dylan Cease this offseason.

When the New York Yankees acquired Juan Soto in a blockbuster trade this offseason, it was a great step in the right direction to ensure they have a bounce back year.

2023 was a disaster as they missed the playoffs for the first time since 2016.

Soto will help their lineup tremendously, but that's not the only upgrade the Yankees' roster needed this offseason.

Despite Gerrit Cole winning the AL Cy Young award after posting an ERA of 2.63, New York's starters finished the year 18th with a 4.44 ERA.

Their signing of Carlos Rodon turned into a disaster as he missed tons of time to start the season and posted a 6.85 ERA with a 3-8 record.

If that's the production they get from the left-hander moving forward then they will certainly need another starter to pair with Cole at the top of their rotation.

It's one of the reasons why the Yankees are reportedly targeting Chicago White Sox ace Dylan Cease.

But despite the level of interest, White Sox general manager, Chris Getz, made it seem like New York is not close to acquiring the 2022 AL Cy Young runner-up based on his conversation with Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY.

"If we feel like there's a there's a fit that improves our club, we will certainly strongly consider it. Certainly that hasn't happened at this point," he said.

Chicago is looking to rebuild and have stated they are listening to offers for the best players on their team, but they will not just give away elite talent without getting a loaded return.

Cease would certainly be a welcome addition for the Yankees and would give them a strong rotation with Nestor Cortes also returning from injury.

How much they are willing to give up to get the star righty is to be seen, especially after what they shipped out for Soto.

Either way, it doesn't seem like New York is close to acquiring Cease at the moment.
