Yankees Expected To Pursue Orioles Superstar Next Offseason According To Insider

It sounds like the Yankees are going to try to sign another ace

The New York Yankees likely are done making major additions at this point.

Opening Day will be here before we know it and if the Yankees were to add another player in free agency, the price would be significant due to heavy tax implications.

If the Yankees can shine throughout the season, it wouldn't be surprising for the club to look to add more to the starting rotation around the trade deadline. New York's rotation still has question marks but if the team is going to add to it, it likely will be at the trade deadline or next offseason.

There are expected to be some high-profile players available next offseason and one player New York reportedly will pursue is Baltimore Orioles ace Corbin Burnes, according to the New York Post's Joel Sherman.

"But as opposed to the (Dave Winfield)-to-(Yoshinobu Yamamoto) timeline, I suspect the (New York Mets) and Yankees will be renewing financial fisticuffs more frequently now that Steve Cohen is involved," Sherman said. "There already has been speculation that the New York squads will be in a dollar duel next offseason for Juan Soto.

"Unless there is residual distaste over a February 2023 arbitration that got contentious then spilled into public criticism by Corbin Burnes against the (Milwaukee Brewers) — at a time when David Stearns was merely an advisor and no longer running baseball operations — then the right-hander is likely to draw interest from both New York teams."

New York attempted to land Burnes in a trade with the Brewers but missed out as the Orioles swooped in and got a deal done. Don't be surprised to see speculation continue to build throughout the 2024 season.
