He's making progress.

New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo stood at his locker at Yankee Stadium on Friday and provided an update on his concussion symptoms.

“I feel good,” Rizzo said two weeks after landing on the injured list with a likely concussion caused by a May collision with Fernando Tatis of the San Diego Padres.

According to Rizzo, he is no longer experiencing fogginess and his reaction times have improved in two weeks since going on the shelf.

“All signs are pointing towards quicker, faster, sharper of what I guess normal was,” Rizzo said. “The biggest thing is just feeling better on a day-to-day basis. I think waking up daily and feeling normal and being hindered by what I think is going on or whatnot … The fogginess has subdued. (Doctors) say once that starts happening, it’s all good things.

“It’s definitely encouraging.”

Although he was cleared to begin hitting in the batting cage on Friday, Rizzo still has no idea when he can return.

“I don’t have a timeline,” he said. “Hopefully in the next few weeks I’m back playing. I don’t know. You’ve got to take it day by day, week by week.”

With just 41 games left in the regular season, It's possible that Rizzo doesn't make it back this season.

“If we run out of time, then we run out of time,” Rizzo said. “I wanted to be playing two weeks ago when this happened, so it’s really the doctor’s orders now with all this. Just one day at a time for me.”

But Rizzo said shutting it down until next season to make sure he is fully healthy hasn't crossed his mind and It's something he has not thought about.

“As a baseball player, you want to play baseball and shutting it down is not an option for me,” Rizzo said. “I don’t know how many more years I have left of doing this, so why shut down and not play? The window is small, so it’s about getting back as fast as possible, obviously as healthy as possible, but shutting down for me is not an option and it hasn’t been discussed.”
